 The Sign of Jonah

A Series of Special Services for Lent

by Dr. Reed Lessing

Jonah for Lent? Sounds fishy, but it’s a natural fit. When the Jews asked Jesus for a sign, He said, “I will give you only the sign of Jonah.” After three days in the belly of the earth, Jesus rose with news of God’s grace. This series of special services for Lent explores the meaning of the “Sign of Jonah” as we follow Jonah on his journey to Nineveh…and Jesus on His way to the cross.

Please join us for our Wednesday evening Lenten worship services beginning on Ash Wednesday February 17.  Worship is at 7:00 p.m. preceded by a light supper at 6:00 p.m.

Volunteers are needed each week to provide and serve the food. Please contact Ruth Tittel if you can help.

This year Pastor Jim will be doing a pulpit exchange with Pastor Gene Reichel (First St. John – York).

The Power of the Cross

A Sermon Series for the Sundays in Lent

There’s no power like the power of the cross. The cross changed human history—forever. The cross continues to change lives today—forever. By the power of Christ’s cross, you will pass through physical death and through Judgment Day unharmed, free to live in unimaginable joy—forever!

The power of the cross is worth thinking about, deeply. Our upcoming 6-week series on Sunday mornings during Lent will help all of us do that together as we prepare our hearts to celebrate Jesus’ Easter victory. Join us, and invite your friends and neighbors to come and share the Good News of the life-changing power of our life-giving Savior. It just may revolutionize all our lives!

Each week the sermon will focus on an aspect of the power of Christ’s saving work on the cross for our salvation and our lives today. A set of questions will accompany each sermon to spark personal reflection or group discussion after worship. Devotion books by Rev. Barry Keurulainen (he authored the 50 Days Ablaze devotions we used several years ago) will also be made available for devotions throughout the week along with questions for personal or group reflections about the devotions.

This is an opportunity for all of us to experience the power of Christ’s saving work on the cross in a special way and to grow spiritually stronger through it. Please take advantage of it.
