If you’ve
never used the library before, and are interested in having someone show you
around, Mary Holle or Sharon Banach would be pleased to show you. If you are
going through your books for the spring, and have some Christian books that you
might want to donate, we would also be happy to sort through them. Also,
bookplates identifying your donation, or in honor of a friend/relative can be
placed in the front of donated titles. Please see Mary Holle if interested in
the bookplates.
The following books are available in our church library. Please take some time on Sunday or throughout the week to visit the library and to have your faith strengthened and your Christian walk empowered.
The Wounded Spirit (
360 PER), by Frank Peretti, is on our library shelf and is a great book with a message for everyone. It's basically about being bullied. Frank Peretti tells about his numerous experiences with bullying in his early life, and it's something that probably everyone can relate to on some level. As a boy who was smaller and less physically able than most, he suffered unbearable torment at school and especially in gym class. He found that bullying was a subject that was not discussed and that even teachers and parents seemed to take the attitude that it was just a part of life. He also addresses more subtle forms of bullying like belittling and unfair criticism that can even happen between adults. He cited several stories of how a person changed the course of someone else's life just because they had made fun of them. He also discusses the other side of the fence and talks about times when he became the one who was the bully. This is a very insightful book that we can all relate to. I'd really encourage every preteen, teenager, and adult to read it--the message is that important.I'd Rather Be Laughing
(242 MEB) is an enjoyable book by Marilyn Meberg that shows the importance of seeing the humor in all situations. Marilyn has faced a number of crises in her life and is still able to keep things in the proper perspective by her sense of humor. The book tells a portion of her life story from the time she became a widow. It portrays a Christian who is real and down-to-earth, someone that we could all relate to. Marilyn takes her Christian faith seriously and has a way of sharing the truth of God's Word and applying it in her life that's refreshing and genuine.Do you ever feel hungry when you have a kitchen full of food? It doesn't make a lot of sense does it? That's the way we can be spiritually too. We're spiritually hungry, and all the while God has provided us with more spiritual food than we could ever digest. One of those ways is through the books in our church library. What a vast wealth of spiritual food! The only problem is, just like a kitchen full of food, it doesn't do us any good unless we eat it.
There are so many categories of books available in the library that they could satisfy any type of appetite. Several of the areas I've enjoyed are the books on Christian living, family finance, and spiritual growth; but, I've also been fed spiritually by the fiction books. The books in the Mitford series by Jan Karon are entertaining as well as uplifting. Also, the American Family Portrait series by Jack Cavanaugh is a historical portrayal of many generations of a family that seeks to do God's will and pass it on to their children. These books are excellently written and are real "page turners."
The library is stocked full of materials for all ages, and if you're not a reader, you many be interested in one of the many videos. Checking a book out of the library couldn't be easier. All you have to do is sign your name and the date on the card that's in the back of the book or inside the video case and drop the card in the box that's on top of the library cabinet. Why not give it a try this Sunday…..you don't know what you're missing!
There are new additions every month in the library. We urge you to come in and see for yourself. Also, should you wish to make a donation of a book or towards books in honor of an occasion, or in memory of a loved one, bookplates may be designed for the front of the books donated. Take a minute to look around, and please ask if you should need help locating something, Sharon Banach, Megan Smith or Mary Holle would be happy to assist you.
