Riddle's 40 Days of Community

June 5, 2010

The “Riddle” 40 Days of Community small group completed their final project on Saturday, June 5, 2010 by hosting the women and children from the shelter at Christ Lutheran Church in Baltimore for “A Day in the Country”.  The goal of the group was to share the wonderful country facilities the Lord has provided Redeemer for children (and moms) that may never have seen anything outside the city (we had several moms who had never even been out of Baltimore City!). The day was a great success- children enjoyed games, water balloons, a petting zoo, and our biggest hit- the fire engine rides- courtesy of Maryland Line Fire Department. The moms walked the prayer trail- and enjoyed the face painting (and we thought only the kids would enjoyed that! ) In true Redeemer tradition we had lots of great food and allowed everyone to roast hot dogs and experience s’mores. Throughout the day the participants were reminded of the Lord’s great love for them through devotions, prayers and singing. At the end of the day we passed out bags for both kids and moms with lots of fun and useful “stuff”.  This group has worked hard all year to earn the funds for this project- but the hard work and the sore bodies were  worth it just to see the smiles on the faces and receive hugs from grateful children of God.
